A man with Weldon and Burlington addresses crashed into a utility pole and caused minor damage to a building this morning after fleeing from an officer while traveling the wrong way on a one-way street.
As of this report, Mario Lenndale Williams, 26, was still hospitalized, but charges are expected to be filed against the man, who is listed as a probation absconder by the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction, Weldon police Chief Christopher Davis said.
Shortly before11:45 a.m. Williams pulled into a convenience store in the 500 block of West Second Street.

Corporal S. McKimmey spotted Williams without a seat belt and tried to block him. Williams, however, maneuvered and drove the wrong way on a one-way stretch of Second Street, traveling an estimated 80 miles per hour in a 35 zone.
He tried to make a right turn onto Washington Avenue but lost control of the Chevy Cobalt he was driving and hit a light pole and building.
The car was totaled and Williams sustained injuries which sent him to the hospital for treatment.
Davis said Dominion Energy estimated damages to its infrastructure at $20,000.
Williams will face charges of speeding, careless and reckless driving, driving while license revoked, no seat belt, traveling the wrong way on a one-way street, aggressive driving, failure to maintain lane control and misdemeanor flee to elude.
